10 Tips On Tagging-Titling Utterz

Here are some tips posted and reposted over at Utterz for Titling and Tagging posts at Utterz, a service that I find invaluable for many reasons.

Here’s a list of ways RandyCorke http://www.utterz.com/…rofile.php came up with a few months ago and are still just as invaluable now.

1. Put titles on all of your posts: providing a captivating title is THE BEST WAY to get people to view your Utter.

2. Add a picture or video when possible: the more pieces of content, the more likely your creation is to find appeal with the largest number of people.

3. Time your voice Utterz between 30 seconds and two minutes: once another member of our community establishes a connection with you, they’ll get used to your style of delivery, and look forward to your latest contributions.

4. State your Utterz handle at the beginning of your Utter: a lot of experienced Utterz users do this extremely well and it’s one of the reasons they’ve developed such expansive followings.

5. Cross-post to other sites: creating an Utter and pushing it out to other blogs/sites is a surefire way to increase traffic to your blogs/sites from search engines.

6. Find your style: one of the things we’ve come to most enjoy about Utterz is all of the little idiosyncratic details we share, some people are funny, others offer razor sharp insight, getting this across in your Utterz is a great way to connect with individuals in our Utterz community, as people with shared experiences and viewpoints.

7. Invite replies: an excellent way to invite replies is to ask a question, this follows the same reasoning as Tip #4.

8. Utter regularly: keep your friends and followers engaged with regular updates.

9. Reply to other people’s Utterz: nobody likes driving the wrong way down a one-way street, right?

10. Follow other people…

There you have it, some very good advice and practical too for bloggers that are using the Utterz service to gather information, communicate and network and then publish or republish out to many different locations on the web. Its a very useful place for getting writing ideas, developing a following, working out concepts and debating everything from politics, race, religion, love and everything in between. The only thing that I think we have not covered yet is the Polar Bear Club Events for 2009 and weight loss pills.

How 2 make Video Small enough 4 Utterz

If you send in video from a camera phone to Utterz, you may not run into this problem, but if you are using a hand held camera to record movies in the video mode or even a camcorder, you may sometimes end up with a video file size larger than 40 mb (over the Utterz video file size quota).

This happens to me all the time, but you don’t have to edit the movie away until there is nothing left.

I mentioned this as an aside in the thread that this message is a reply to, but I thought I’d spell it out a bit more clearly for some of the new folks on Utterz or the people new to video.

The general idea is that you can take a video file and convert it into a different video file that does not take up as much file size space.

In the conversion, you can also change the dimensions of the video changing the file size say from 1200 x 900 down to 480 x 360 or something. 480 x 360 is about the largest video Utterz will show at the same resolution anyway.

When you change the dimensions, or change the quality of the video, or change the file type (depending on which you choose), this can significantly decrease your file size.

For example for short basic videos I sometimes use my simple digital camera. Its a Canon Digital Elph and its actually a bit old (3.2 megapixel if you want to date it). I can take about 2 minutes of video with it with a screen with of 680 pixels at 30 frames per second.

It records in a file type of .AVI.

I can then take the resulting file and convert it into .WMV using a converter I picked up originally for my real camcorder

I personally then convert .flv (flash video files) into .avi or .wmv files so that I can edit them and mix them with other projects.

( http://top10tech.com/…ree-trial/ - it comes with a free trial if you want to take it for a spin - screen shot above.)
With that tool I can convert a 30 second movie of 100 megabytes (too big for Utterz) down to about 5 megabytes, which is well under the Utterz 40 megabyte quota.

When I make fancier stuff with Pinnacle studio movie editing software, I tend to create the movies in .MPG at a low quality setting for the internet.

I then take those movies and convert them to .WMV as well and on a good day can shave 1/3 to 2/3’s off the file size of a movie.

That conversion means that I can get a movie into Utterz under the quota which is good.

It also means faster upload times as well, so I’m not getting a drink, watching a little tv, exercising on the elliptical machine and taking a nap while I waiting for the Utterz system to accept the video. I just zap it up there and move on to what ever I’m going to do next.

There are probably dozens or hundreds of other converters out there, and you may have one or two on your computer system already. (I used to use windows moviemaker to do some basic conversion, by burning an old movie into a new movie with a different file format. Its a slower more tedious way of doing things but it can sometimes help.

Are You Uttering with Twitter?

I have been working with a mobile video blogging tool called Utterz for a while.  I can capture a quick video with my cell phone, message it to Utterz and it will auto publish to my blog along with a text message that I can type.  I can also call in with the phone and leave an audio message or what ever.

When it posts to my blog, the video shows up as embedded flash and it gives me a fast way to publish quick tid bits on the go.

Today, I plugged my utter into twitter (picture a cow wishing that it was being water boarded instead of hooked up to jumper cables).  So now I can publish to utterz and the text message will simultaneously update my twitter account.

Tomorrow, I’ll also plug those into Facebook and then I will be facing, twittering and uttering all at the same time, might give my wife a heart attack, but that is why she has life insurance, to deal with my eccentricity.
