WindowsLiveWriter Works best with WordPress 2.2 or higher

Joe Cheng from Microsoft dropped by to help show me how to get WindowsLiveWriter running even better.

It seems that to use the function that enables you to add categories on the fly, your WordPress blog must be running WordPress 2.2 or higher.

(I actually thought that I had 2.2 running, but had missed a step and was still running 2.1.  Mental head slap!  So when I walked through the use of the upgraded WindowsLiveWriter a couple days ago in a video, I didn’t get all the benefits.)

So I upgraded and it works like a charm.  I’ll have a new quick video to demonstrate what it takes to update WLW to run after you have upgraded WordPress.

Steps

  1. Upgrade Wordpress to 2.2 or higher
  2. Open WindowsLiveWriter (after upgrading)
  3. Select Weblog button
  4. Select the Blog that has been upgraded to WordPress 2.2
  5. Choose Edit Weblog Settings
  6. Walk through the wizard hitting next and finish as necessary, everything else should already be configured
  7. Repeat for each blog you have.

That was some Great Help Joe!

WindowsLiveWriter is back at the top of my list as the best blogging software that I have come across.  I’d give big extra kudos if it had a word count function in it.  I’ve got deadlines to meet!
