Custom Luggage for Traveling

This is a bit off topic, but all in all it highlights a distraction that keeps me from working effectively a bit.

I just returned from a 1500 mile round-trip journey from North Carolina to Illinois and back again in a minivan. I was struck by the inadequacy of my own luggage during the trip. I have a very nice Samsonite shoulder bag for my laptop and accessories. And I have a very nice outdoor hiking backpack for the same thing.

I took the rest of the family and they have various assorted different types of luggage as well, and every time we go we always pack things into every little nook and cranny of the minivan. It would seem to me that car designers could get together and build built-in luggage that fits precisely into all those nooks and crannies within the minivan such that all we have to do is fill up the luggage with the right things and drop the luggage component into its respective slot.

I recall seeing a few cars from the 1930s or 40s that used to have this type of capability. Now I’m not typically into designer luggage or things of that nature but I woud be if it were extra functional and worked synergetically with my vehicles to utilize that space efficiently.

My previous complaints about the minivan was the lack of a table to set my laptop on all were traveling and fortunately the new Chrysler minivans now have that capability. I’m not saying that it’s functional as there’s not much knee space but at least they are making progress. I’ll bang my knees a few times it helps me get something out on deadline.
