The Next Google Update is Today, Tomorrow and the Next Day!

That’s right.  Google is doing an update today, tomorrow, the next day and in fact every day after that!

Google continually updates their rankings of websites and web pages.  They only update the visible page rank of a site every 10 - 14 weeks.  The visible page rank is the ranking displayed in the Google Toolbar.

PageRank Tip!  -  If you need to turn on the PageRank option in Firefox, simply click on the Options button in the Google Toolbar, and then check the box for PageRank and hit OK.

So if you make positive improvements in your site today, it could have rapid beneficial impact tomorrow.

You should be more concerned about how often Google Bot is scanning your site and your pages.  This is the reason why you should link back to your older articles as well.  Links to those older articles in new articles helps Google Bot do an update on those old articles, and possibly give those articles a boost.

Validate Your Blog Every Week

Here is a tip that will help your blog continue to perform well.

Validate your blog at least once per Week!

Now this is something that I do better some weeks rather than others.  I’m writing this article in fact to remind myself as much as my readers.  As I check my own validation calendar, I see that I have let validation slip on Top10Tech for over a month!

That is a definite mistake.  If you validate this blog right now you will probably see about 2 dozen validation errors (assuming you look within about 12 hours of this post).

These have crept into my theme and some of my articles over the last month or two.

WindowsLiveWriter Creating Buggy Code

One of the errors relates to WindowsLiveWriter which is inserting an atomicselection attribute that does not exist.  Shame on Microsoft for writing more buggy code, shame on me for not catching it fast enough.

Error Line 202, column 132: there is no attribute “atomicselection” .

Validate Advertising Code before Loading it into a Rotator or Adserver

Several others relate to the adserver that I'm running.  I neglected to validate ad code before I loaded the ad code into my adserver database.  So I need to get in there and validate both my ad code as well as the ad code generated by the adserver.

The UK Makes Vanity Plates Online Work

The UK makes selling Vanity Plates work for the local economy.  Unlike in the US, where individual states regulate vanity plates, creating an unending quagmire of red tape.

The United Kingdom has a program that dates back almost to the invention of the automobile that allows a local allocation of numbers.

To put it simply, local governments regulate the numbers, and these can then be offered up online through commercial services.  You can think of it like there is a limited number of vanity plate numbers available.  Since the supply is mostly fixed, that makes it valuable.

So they basically turn to resellers to connect the buyers and the sellers.  Furthermore, private individuals that own the number plates already can list their existing numbers for sale as well.

Capitalism demonstrating its might over would be beaueucrats!

You can simply login to a site like NorthumbriaNumbers.com where they specialize in helping people find the best possible combination of numbers to create vanity number plates.

So if you have initials of BHB, you enter the numbers and perform a search to see if anyone is listing a number plate that contains your initials.

Then you get a listing of all the available options and their asking price.

If you have a mind to get more details or possibly even haggle a bit, then go for it, otherwise you can buy it right now.

Now if you really want to chase after something fun, you can even try and track down a customize number plate from a movie or tv show.
