Concert Tickes on the Web 1.0 Primed for 2.0 Upgrade

Shortly after the inception of the internet, companies started springing up that offered concert tickets online.  The web seems to follow a path where someone innovates a new line of business on the web.  Then over time many companies follow suit that find ways to mimick the original.

They usually find somesimple ways to do things easier, faster, more effectively or cheaper.  Like finding cheaper jimmy buffett tickets or finding a site that always delivers seats in the front row or some other specialty service.

Then eventually from this group of companies that have essentially formed a niche industry around concert tickets online, someone eventually breaks out with a new innovative way to market or package the experience in an entirely new way.  From this the Internet 2.0 iteration of the web company eventually evolves.

So who will break out and offer a ticket solution to break the old mold next?

Text Link Ads Stopped Supporting Blogger then Back Again

I read a report last week I wrote and article on a different site about Text Link Ads. Long story short their feed code was not working with Google’s Blogger system, the new system.

TLA stopped supporting new ad setups with blogger blogs, but kept working with Google and between the two companies, the functionality is working again and Blogger Bloggers now have the option to earn some money through Text Link Ads again.

Here is an excerpt from a notification that I received from Text Link Ads

Our records show that you are a Text Link Ads publisher with a Blogger site. Due to recent issues with Blogger’s RSS feed functionality, many of our Blogger sites were disabled — or were unable to install our feed to begin with. Your site, http://mavenmapper.blogspot.com, is currently among these sites.

Blogger recently resolved this issue, so we encourage you to log into your TLA account and repeat the process to install our Blogger setup. Once this is complete, your site will be approved and placed back into our marketplace within 24 hours.

Thank you for your patience. We look forward to selling ads on your site!

Here is what you will see if Blogger and the TLA feed are working correctly!

Microsoft Wants to Yodel "Yahoooooo-oooh!

Microsoft and Yahoo revealed this week a hint of the desperation that both companies face as they confront a rapidly growing Google monster.  Neither Yahoo nor Microsoft has had much success in standing up to Google’s advertising machine.  Yahoo and Microsoft both offer technologically speaking products that are probably severe year to Google’s advertising solutions.

Google however has the advantage in the form of a large supply of advertisers to enable Google to provide truly contextual advertising at every turn of the Web.  Google also has a very solid lock on the search engine industry.  The combination of advertising and search have proven to be the holy grail of the Web for the last 10 years.

As Google starts to step into Microsoft’s software world providing word processing and spreadsheet products along with Gmail, Microsoft is confronted with an offensive frontal attack.  Meanwhile Yahoo has been unable to recapture any of its former glory.  The weakness at Yahoo combined with Microsoft’s natural tendency to purchase and merge with technology companies have created a situation where a merger would be beneficial and is rapidly becoming necessary.

Regardless it doesn’t look like any of the principles in the negotiation will be breaking out their bic pens to sign on the dotted line anytime very soon, however it would not surprise me if the deal were cooked up by the end of summer.  Neither Microsoft nor Yahoo can afford to allow another year to go by with Google maintaining a stranglehold over online advertising.
