After using Skype for 6-7 months now, I am warming to the utility of videoconferencing. I believe it is getting ready to take off in the next year.

At CES I had the opportunity to take a look at several new products that had videoconferencing built into the phones. Amusingly different conferencing tools from Netmeeting, Google Chat, Yahoo, Live Meeting and GoToMeeting have all fueld this fire and made consumers more comfortable with the new paradigms of communication.

The technology is finally getting to the point where the standards are becoming inter operable for Video Conferencing and compression, which will make the industry ready for prime time.

From a Web Content or Specialization persepctive, if you’re looking to move into niche in the web, you should definitely consider covering videoconferencing. It’s right for a move as it will enable people to collaborate more effectively for over distances in or out of the office.
